The proposal has been made by Port of Tilbury London Limited and includes the installation of four wind turbines opposite the River Thames within the Port of Tilbury.
The electricity generated by the turbines would be connected directly to the Port's power supply meeting, it is estimated, 25 per cent of the total energy demands of the Port.
The rotor diameter of each blade will be 90 metres and each turbine will be accompanied by three metre high switchrooms.
The turbines are earmarked to be installed from the Dock entrance along to the GradeII listed Cruise Terminal.
The plan has already been recommended for refusal by Thurrock Council and Committee member Ben Stoneham, raised his concerns at today's meeting.
He said: "We're going to have to put up with these ugly things but what is the benefit for the community?"
Committee member Sunny Crouch said: "In the location that's proposed I think they are acceptable."
