Crime fears prompt meeting with police commander
CONCERNED: Earnshaw Palmer
CONCERNED: Earnshaw Palmer

CAMPAIGNERS in Chaffiord Hundred and North Stifford have called for a meeting with local police chief Alan Cotgrove to discuss anti-social behaviour and crime-data.

Liberal Democrat Vice-Chair Earnshaw Palmer has taken up the case for residents and said: "Following a crime survey undertaken in the entire Chafford Hundred and North Stifford, Thurrock Liberal Democrats will be meeting with the Chief Inspector Cotgrove to show him the crime-data that we have obtained and to review with him as a matter of urgency the level and distribution of policing in the area."

"From the replies that we have received to our survey there is a considerable level of anti-social behaviour within the area."

"Furthermore, over a two-week period in March there were two burglaries, one robbery, three counts of criminal damage, three thefts from cars and one vehicle theft reported to the Police, across the whole of Chafford Hundred."

Mr Palmer says, "Any crime against individuals or their property is upsetting and causes them unnecessary worry on top of their everyday concerns."

"Crime is one of the biggest issues in Britain today and the Liberal Democrats are taking a lead in proposing real action to cut crime."

"The fear of crime is just as bad as crime itself, and we feel that residents should be able to relax within the vicinity of their own homes."

"We need to tackle crime hot spots before they become soft spot for persistent offenders and no-go areas in our communities."

"An increased police presence has already reduced reported crime-levels in other parts of Thurrock and we believe it's time that Chafford and North Stifford residents got the benefit of this as well!"

I have said it before and will say it again

Hooray it must be spring come early as I just heard the rare sound of the Lesser Spotted Earnshaw Palmer! For those that don't know, it is regularly heard a couple of weeks before the first week in May, tends to make a lot of noise and as many photo opps as possible then disappears. It is strongly beleived that after the first week in May, or election time as it is known, it either goes into a deep sleep after reading its own literature or migrates to warmer clims.
You can spot it very easily as it can stoop very low, easily jumps in band wagons and its call invariably sounds like something you want or is common sense but at the same time also sounds very hollow.

Unfortunately crime is everywhere. However, headline seaking stunts like this do nothing but to increase the fear of crime. This drives honest people off the streets and makes anti social behaviour easier to commit as the visual deterant of possible witnesses is reduced.

If Mr Palmer had bothered himself to attend the Community Forum meetings, then he would of been informed by Ch Insp Cotgrove himself of the police tactics and presence within Chafford, and the lengths the Forum and Police have gone to in order to reduce the ASB over the past year.
