Another honour for borough pub
THE award-winning Whitmore Arms pub in Orsett has triumphed by picking up another top honour at the Pub Industry Oscars, The Publican Awards, walking away with the Customer Service Pub of the Year award 2008.
The awards, which were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, were attended by more than 1,800 people from the Pub Industry.
Comedians Alan Carr and Justin Lee Collins were the hosts at the event, as 19 awards were handed out to the cream of the UK's licensees.
Licensees, Margaret and Jim Orman who run the Whitmore Arms beat off five other national pub finalists for the prestigious accolade. They have worked tirelessly to create a brilliant pub offering home cooked food with exceptional standards.
Speaking about their win, Margaret said, "This is fantastic news, we are over the moon. Our team at the Whitmore Arms, makes the customers experience extra special and now this award recognises their hard work and attention to detail.
"We're certainly going to make sure we celebrate our success".
Managing director for Greene King, David Elliott said: "Margaret and Jim run a brilliant pub and their service really does stand out from the crowd. We are extremely pleased that this has been recognised at a national level and very proud that they run a Greene King pub in partnership with us.
"It's a great accolade to them and their team."

atley, at the Orsett **** we have a recently refurbished, ideal-location pub which is still a mess, attracting white-van man clientele only, yet it COULD be just like the Whitmore Arms.......owners...

Sadly there are many pubs that although, money is thrown at them, they will never come up to scratch. I used to drink in the orsett **** in my 'younger' days and it used to be very popular. I have to say that when I drive past it now, I never think to stop or have a meal with my family. Not sure why but it's the same with other pubs in the Thurrock area. Some places you just don't frequent maybe it's image or reputation or both - not because of white vans parked outside! but well done to the Whitmore arms - it's reputation is excellent and deservedly so.
