Call for Chafford residents to back weight restriction

THURROCK Council will be applying for planning permission to reinstate the 7.5 weight restriction upon Devonshire Road which is very much needed.

We residents live in a highly populated area, and our children's main route to the surrounding schools is to walk along Devonshire Road.

Our houses and flats are just a couple of feet away from this main road.

We purchased these properties with the knowledge that there was a 3.5 and 7.5 ton weight restriction, where the signs are clearly visible as you enter Devonshire Road from Hogg Lane roundabout.

Do you realy think we would have purchased our properties actually knowing there was an oil terminal and if there was no weight restrcition applied?

All we want is a peaceful life which we have not had since the signage became illegal.

We want the privilages that those residents of London Road and Stifford have by means of width restrictions, reduced speed limits of 20 and 30mph and speed cameras.

Why cant we have the same traffic calming measures on Devonshire Road?

We do not want the HGVs accessing this road any more.

To date there has been several accidents upon Devonshire Road. Is it going to take an oil tanker or other HGV to lose control and cause fatalities before something is actually done.

So please Chafford residents, back this weight restriction and make Chafford Hundred a safer community for us all to live in.

T. Matthews,

Devonshire Road,

Chafford Hundred.

simple question,,,,,,,,,,,,
,why are not the police resident at this road fining instantly these lorries ???

anwser..........the police are much more interested in fining the "normal" car driver.....he is easier to catch and fine isn't he ???

let's HEAR from the police via this newspaper then............come on Gazette .....get on their case !!!

This restriction is a complete nonsense, Devonshire Road was built as a relief road to remove HGV's from London Road where they pass a matter of feet from peoples front doors. The application to remove lorries from Devonshire Road - a suitable road and route to the A13 will be strongly resisted. Why should the Chafford NIMBY's put the lives of hundreds of Children at risk who have no choice but to walk along London Road to get to school?

I agree Devonshire Road was built as a relief road and most of the residents in Sachfield Drive/Devonshire Road new this. I live on Hogg Lane side of Chafford and we have to put up with lorries going past our house at all hours of the day starting as early as 3am. As the vehicles accelerate away from the rounderbout at the top of Devonshire Road towards Grays the noise levels are at there highest. Why should we put up with these lorries and not the residents in Devonshie Road? We all need to live in a safe, family friendly environment. Stop moaning!!!!!!!!!!

people on chafford hundred seem to think they are better than anyone else, devonshire road is obviously the safest route for tankers to use from the petrol depot to the A13,why should they be forced down london road right past peoples front doors and then through the overloaded lakeside area.its a disaster waiting to happen.the weight restriction should be on london road from the junction with devonshire road to the roundabout at the top of west thurrock way, this would stop lorries ratrunning through the residential areas and up devonshire road to avoid lakeside and the M25/A13 junction.

The residents that live on Devonshire Road bought their houses under the assurance that there were weight restrictions on the road. They now learn that the weight restrictions weren't really there in the first place.

Luckily, instead of leaving tit for tat messages like we see on here day in day out by the same sad people, the residents are working closely with the council and agencies to develop a short term and long term solutions to this problem that is affecting everyone.

Let's hope that Thurrock Council delivers on this one.

lets hope they do not, devonshire road should be used for the purpose it was built for, there must be ten times the amount of people living along london road compared to devonshire road.devonshire road is clearly the safest route.

i am grown up mate, grown up enough to realise devonshire road is a far safer less congested route than london road.the west grays by-pass was built to take heavy traffic off of london road and a few snobby nimbys should not be allowed to change that.

Having driven both routes today it is more clear than ever that the route to the A13 via London Road presents far more scope for accidents & pedestrian collision than the route via Devonshire Road Noteably 3 Zebra Crossings, Narrow pavements (less than 5 foot), Numerous pedestrians and about 10 side roads with limited visibility. Compare with Devonshire, 2 side roads (High Visibility) no zebra crossings, wide pavements, virtually no pedestrians, wide roads. Can anyone really believe that this Campaign by "Chafford H" (Yes i have actually heard one of the snobs that live there call it that) residents is anything other than a monumental case of NIMBYism?

Have i called them snobs in this thread? Maybe if you spent less time excercising your right arm you might be able to read the words better.
