West Ham set for pre-season visit to Thurrock
 |
| PLAYER OF THE SEASON: Che Stadhart |
THE Blue Square South league season is barely over, but Thurrock are already making plans for their next campaign.
The Ship Lane club has announced a prestigioous early season friendly with West Ham United on Saturday, July 26, kick-off 3pm.
Last year, West Ham sent a team inclusive of Richard Wright, John Paintsil and Carlton Cole, as well as high profile youth players Kyle Reid, Jack Collison, Tony Stokes and Bondz Ngala, which won 3-1 thanks to goals from Cole, Zavon Hines and Hogan Ephraim. Che Stadhart scored for the Fleet.
It was to be a good portent for Stahart who went on to have a great season for Fleet and he has been named Supporters' Player of the Year.
Having notched up 13 goals and 12 assists in all competitions for the season, Che has been widely recognised for his experience and determination.
Manager Hakan Heyrettin said: "Che has been fantastic for us this year. His non-stop work ethic has been a significant part of our attack and he has linked up with Dave (Bryant), Fola (Orilonishe) and Bods (Matt Bodkin) to create an attacking force to be proud of. Well done to Che."
In second place was David Bryant and goalkeeper David Blackmore, whose statistics boast 10 league clean sheets and four penalty saves, and was third.
The keeper has now returned to West Ham after his season-long loan ended.
The future of Bodkin is also unclear. he too was on a season-long loan at Thurrock, but still has a year of his contract to go with Grays Athletic.
