EAST Thurrock United manager John Coventry has pledged that his side will bounce back from relegation from the Ryman Premier League.

Speaking at the club's presentation evening, Coventry said he was optimistic that the Rocks would be a force to be reckoned with in the Ryman One North next season if the squad stayed together.

Though he is resigned to losing some of the players he gathered together for the closing months of the season, the manager said he had shaken hands with most of his team and expected to see them back for pre-season training.

"East Thurrock football club is not like a lot of clubs, it is a family," he said.

"We have suffered a big disappointment together by getting relegated but I believe this is not a relegation team, the players are very capable of enjoying a good season next time.

"I'd like to thank everyone at the club who have worked so hard behind the scenes and the players who came close to avoiding going down.

"Our performances at the end of the season showed the capability of the team and I genuinely think we were unlucky. We will come back next time."

Coventry nominated goalkeeper Shane Gore and central defender Ben Wood as his joint players of the year. Gore was also the committee and supporter's player of the year, while midfielder Max Cornhill was named the young player of the year.
